A New Chapter for WanderLush

Introducing a collection of 25 curated blank card sets, designed for personal connection — available for purchase October 2, 2026.

Lately, when I feel down or overwhelmed, no matter the circumstances, I am snapped back into gratitude and awe by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, who reminds us of the staggering improbability of our own existence.

Most people who could mathematically exist will never see the light of day. According to Tyson, the genetic code allows at least a billion billion billion (10 to the 30th power) viable variations to create a human, so we are each alive against "stupendous odds."

Because we each won this genetic lottery of birth, we are each a rare and special entity. He often reflects that this makes us the "lucky ones" who get to experience life, witness sunsets, and gaze at the night sky…

It is from this perspective that I travel about in this world every day.

THE BEGINNING

And it was from this perspective, in early 2022, that I had a great personal epiphany.

I was lying awake in bed after an incredibly satisfying day visiting our second son in Madrid, where he was studying abroad. I loved watching him navigate the city with enthusiasm and vigor, camera in hand, just the way his older brother had a few years prior in Paris.

I also thought about my father and his extensive travels—and his vast Kodachrome library beginning in 1955, on his Goodwill trip to Europe after a personal meeting and letters of introduction from Eleanor Roosevelt herself.

In the middle, where I always am, I thought about my own photographic life since age fifteen—my travels, my work as a photo editor, and all the varied ways photography has been a part of my life.

THE COLLABORATION

I thought about the four of us photographers—two grown sons, my father and me—plus my fantastically adventurous and devoted husband, and our incredibly special daughter.

I wish I could have Tyson work out the mathematical probability of her, born in rural southwest China, ever finding her way to us, her family and her home. No doubt the double miracle of that feat would be beyond my mind's ability to understand.

Together, the six of us comprise a great, unlikely band of brothers, enthusiastically sprinting around the globe, cameras in hand, trying to record, share and save images of this beautiful world we all share. The World As We've Seen It.

We, are WanderLush.

THE PURPOSE

But also, YOU are WanderLush.

Millions of the lucky among us are doing the same, every chance we get.

Wouldn't we all love to have a better, more complete and beautiful place to save, share and view the images of The World As We've Seen It?

This seedling of a thought became the ultimate goal for this project and has motivated me ever since.

I began dreaming of a place, a platform, where we could all easily save, share and view, in a more complete and beautiful way, the collective worlds we have all seen. My family is simply the prototype for my larger vision.

It is a big vision, however, and one that has many layers. I knew I needed to take it one layer at a time.

Layer One was to create my first WanderLush website and begin sharing my images and stories—of my precious orbit, of others who have inspired me, and of the background, family and experiences that inspired this project.

When I returned home from Madrid, I immediately began bringing Layer One (this website) to fruition. Little did I know that I would also come home to an unusual cancer diagnosis that required a tough surgery and brought with it an uncertain future.

With everything suddenly more clear, I found great peace in facing that challenge knowing that at least Layer One would perhaps get created.

In that time, I was very fortunate to survive a few more miracles, and I've been able, over the last four years, to slowly chip away at developing this project through our photographs, travels and stories.

I am incredibly grateful to anyone who has taken the time to follow along at the beginning of this journey. I have noticed and appreciated each and every one of you.

THE INVITATION

Layer Two: Create something useful and tangible to introduce people more broadly and concretely to this project—while also encouraging the beautiful, nostalgic gift of a handwritten note.

A handwritten note sends love in a way that brings joy to anyone scanning a pile of junk mail, only to discover the magic of a handwritten envelope.

My card collections were carefully curated. I created 25 different sets of blank cards with envelopes—a dozen cards per box, each featuring a unique image from our collaboration—in a custom-designed keepsake box.

The first eight are my Signature Sets: my father's Vintage Slides, four collections of floral images, Skies, Doors of the World, and a set dedicated to our home country—Sea to Shining Sea.

The final seventeen sets are each dedicated to a location—a place that we have seen and experienced and that means something to us. Perhaps they are places that mean something to you, as well.

They are just a glimpse, of course, but I hope that if these places mean something to you, I have done justice to your special places, too.

Cheers to you, my fellow genetic-lottery winners—

Across Oceans. Under One Sky.

We Are Here Only Briefly. The Vast World Awaits.
